Holistic means we will look at more than just what you are eating! We are going to look at your mind, body and spirit because they all interconnect contributing to overall health. While the old adage of "you are what you eat" is pretty darn accurate, our thoughts, our daily lifestyle & habits and our past can significantly impact our body and how we feel in it. Holistic nutrition is about about nourishing the body and mind through tweaking what you are already doing to better support things like your

energy levels, digestion, mood and immune system...just to name a few.

My Approach to Nutrition

Nutrition is always a Work In Progress which is why I named my business WIP Lifestyle! What a body needs is often changing as we move through different stages of life. How you have always eaten may not be working for you anymore. A new job, changing relationships, stressful times, being more active, getting older, new aches and pains, perimenopause, are some of the things which can impact what nutrients can best support our body. We all come from different pasts and live in different environments, and these are what make every body and mind so unique. We will look at all aspects of your life to develop an individualized plan for lifestyle, movement and nutrition through science-backed recommendations. Calorie counting can have its place, but generally it is better to focus on quality whole nutrient dense foods. I like to work with what you are already doing in your life and then tweak it to add, remove or swap foods to fit your plan!

Quality Ingredients

We are aiming to get as many nutrients as possible from whole unprocessed fresh foods. Just like a car, we want to fuel our body with quality so that everything runs smoothly and we have less breakdowns.

Balance

Whether we are talking work/life, movement/relaxation or good food/better food choices, balance is so important! Too much or too little of anything in life can contribute to imbalances in our body. 

Collaboration

Health care is a team approach. I can tell you all the things to do, but if the recommendation does not work for your life then it is going to be hard to implement. We will work together to find changes which fit. We may also include other health care disciplines into the collaboration.

In 2015 I woke up one day admitting to myself that my body hurt like an 80 year old and I could not eat anything without having digestive upsets. I had gained a lot of weight over the prior 15 years, deep down I was pretty unhappy and I had been eating my feelings for too long.

 

I set out on a weight loss journey, which really became a complete lifestyle change. Through the process I fell in love with movement again and learned about a healthier way to eat. This was when I decided to change careers and become a Personal Trainer. I wanted to help people feel empowered to get moving.

Fast forward some years, now I am noticing changes in my body even though my routine has not changed. I am a bit moodier, sweating through the night, and feeling generally tired...am I in perimenopause?

This was one of the catalysts for me to decide to get a deeper level of knowledge on food and which nutrients can support what within our body. As a Holistic Nutritionist I am armed with science-backed knowledge to deep dive into your diet and help optimize how you feel in your body!
